An exciting and important tip
when re-assembling your tractor after surgery.
When your tractor was fist assembled, a product named Titanine was used between the dissimilar metal surfaces. This material is an assembly solution and is there to prevent (or, at least, reduce) galvanic action.
For those with less than a degree in electro-chemistry, galvanic action is like a battery in reverse. There is a reaction between the Electron (Aluminium alloy) and steel or cast iron. This action causes a rotting of the metals involved very like that awfull green mess which appears on the posts of a battery. Huge amounts of metal simply disappear into a white dust, never to be seen again.
We have found the company who supply Titanine!
We now use Titanine to re-assemble every tractor which we dismantle. If it was right for Mr. Ferguson, it's right for us. We have met a number of tractors which have, obviously, been dismantled before and re-assembled without the use of a galvanic corrosion inhibitor. These tractors have been difficult and very time-consuming to take apart and the electron has been inclined to crumble in our hands. Don't risk it! Here is how things look, after a while, if Titanine is not used (thanks to René for the photos)
